Indo-Pak meeting Agenda: Non-starter recipe for failure

Indians suffer from a false sense of being omnipotence. They have tried to stack the deck on negotiations by placing non-sequator items on the agenda and thus want to pre-empt the results by focusing on bombs in Jaipur. The attempt it to show them as victims to the Americans and then extract consessions from the Paksitanis on the pipeline fees etc.

On the pipeline fees, they low balled it by saying that nothing is due to Pakistan. ABout $1 Billion in transit fees is due to Pakistan per annum. $200 million is nothing. It barely takes care of the maintenance and scurity of the pipeline. Pakistan should consider the court cases that India will file in case of inteeruption in gas to India.

Negotiation quadrantGenerically these are the possible outcomes:

  • Lose/Lose (all parties lose)
  • Win/Lose (I win and you lose)
  • Lose/Win (I lose and you win)
  • Win/Win (we both win, but this could also be described as compromise)
  • Win More/Win More (we maximize our shared resources by being collaborative)
